I recently discovered a blog, and I stumbled on this beautiful post, about how to deal with people who draw you back on your success.

If you are born to be an entrepreneur, then you probably never fitted in with everyone else. You were always excited about learning new things, having crazy ideas, while everyone else was at a why bother attitude, and always thinking you are a bit crazy.

The greatest drawback are the people who love you, who want you to have a stable life, with a stable income. They think that is what success means, and they draw you down every day. “Are you still working on that internet thing?“. “Why dont you get a real job?“. You probably hear those comments all day, every day, for years now. If not, then you are lucky.

The problem is not that those comments wear you down, its that they hit you, when you are down. And being a freelancer always has its ups and downs. Your friends remarks really burn when you just had a failure. When you need to hear a “Yes, it botched, but now you know more about it. Keep trying, and I know you will make it work the next time“. But instead, you hear “See? I told you this was nonsense, and now you are in debt“.

The only way to overcome this, is by sheer willpower. Focus on your goals, and don’t let anybody stop you. This is turning too much into a gay inspirational post, but I will give you something to ponder.

When fishermen fish for crabs, they have many shallow, wooden boxes, like the ones they put fruit on fruit markets. Any single crab can easily climb its way out of it. What the fishermen do, is put at least two crabs in each box. When a crab tries to escape, the others pull him back in. The result, is they both end up boiled on a plate.
