@Donace, I will double this post as an experiment, and I will not create any more links than the ones already done and explained in the post. Just to see if the #1 place sticks. I predict that it will stay that way, the keyphrase is hardly useful

In competitive keyphrases, yes, you will eventually get pushed down. But that high spot even for a short while gives you the change to get traffic, social bookmarks, comments from blogs and links from fora. Of course it needs more to stay there, but the concept is the same.

Also note that the #11 spot written in the post was an example, this blog did not rank at all for the particular keyphrase. This is a hint on how to jump onto recent trends. Commonly called “trend hopping”.
