Lets fertilize our link farms a bit. Every new webmaster has to overcome the same problem: he has no sites to begin with.

You will soon realize as you build more and more sites, that it becomes easier to kick-start them. You already have link volume, you have 10-20 pr4 links to throw as soon as you register the new domain name.

But how do I start? you might ask.

I assume you have already uploaded some content, and submitted your url to the engines.

  • Start with blogs. Splogs basically. Whatever it is you are building, make one slow growing splog and point it to your new site. Then forget about it. It will simulate slow organic growth, and do good on the long-term.
  • Then submit to directories. 20 submissions are more than enough. Try to go for the juicy ones. Forget DMOZ at this point. Totally. Googling keyword + directory/submit url/add url will bring more directories than you can use.
  • Then, social bookmark your site. Stumble and delicious only. Tag the deeper pages as well. Dont go crazy, just tag it and forget about it.
  • Then, using Adwords keyword tool, take around 20 of your target keywords, and to to www.dot.tk, and see if the you can register any domains with those keywords. Point the domains to your site, of course.
  • Add a blog engine to your site (wordpress of course), name it “news”. Set up wpomatic to scrape 5 news stories related to your keywords from google news. No more than 5-7 posts per day. That way you will have fresh content every day (of course add content yourself as well)

Where does this get you?

By doing all the above steps, you have:

  • Indexed pages
  • 5 incoming links to your site every day.
  • 5 fresh keyword rich pages every day.
  • 30-200 organic visitors per month depending on how lucky you where with .tk
  • 10 links from directories.
  • Possibility of social traffic.

As soon as you make this happen, you are off to a good start. Depending on your chosen niche, your competition, your own work you put into it, your site will either work or not. But these are the basic guidelines to start your site.
